Micro Enterprise Promotion Programme (MEPP)
MEPP is an initiative of Small Industrial Development Bank of India (SIDBI) to promote micro enterprises. Micro enterprises require extensive support because they often operate with limited resources, lack exposure to modern technologies, and face difficulties in accessing finance and markets. Aspiring entrepreneurs, especially first-generation ones, need handholding for enterprise grounding as they struggle with regulatory compliance, credit linkages, and business planning. Despite these challenges, micro enterprises contribute significantly to local employment, poverty reduction, and grassroots innovation, making them vital for inclusive economic growth.
